The official recount in Georgia is unlikely to show a significant difference from the November 3 election’s original result, but Donald Trump and his camp are not ready to raise the white flag yet. The Trump campaign remains firm on its claims that the state’s election results should be invalidated due to widespread irregularities and illegal vote counts.

According to 11 Alive News, the Georgia State Senate had two hearings on Thursday, which focused on the alleged flaws in the election process. The Senate Government Oversight Committee held a session to review the process to ensure the state’s voting process’s integrity. A Senate Judiciary subcommittee listened testimonies from a dozens of witness and whistleblower claiming improprieties in the process, which raised doubts on the Georgia’s Nov 3^rdelection results.

Trump’s personal lawyer, the former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani presented evidence and brought witnesses who provided information about the vulnerabilities in the election system. Giuliani stopped short of saying that Georgia’s senators should use their constitutional power to select Georgia’s electors, and it’s their responsibility to ensure the credibility of the state’s voting system.

The Senate hearings were held as part of the Trump campaign’s effort to overturn the election results in Georgia, which became a swing state in a presidential election for the first time in decades. President-elect Joe Biden emerged victorious in the predominantly red state, getting around 13,000 more votes than Trump.

Following the Senate hearing, Giuliani then took to Twitter to intensify their bid to convince the court and voters that fraudulent activities indeed happened in Georgia. The 76-year-old lawyer reacted reposted a CCTV video taken at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The footage showed election officers taking at least four ballot boxes under a table and counted the ballots after observers were asked to leave the room.

“Are we going to let Democrats steal the election in front of our faces,” Giuliani tweeted. “If we can’t stand up to the pressure of saving our country from rampant voter fraud because we are afraid of the elite reaction, we better find more courageous people for our party.”

Reacting to the controversial video, Georgia governor Brian Kemp told Fox News that the footage raised more questions about the credibility of the last month’s election in the state. Kemp thinks that there should be a signature audit, calling out Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a fellow Republican. The governor said that Raffensperger should come out and explain what they saw in the video.

The president’s legal team filed suit in Georgia on Friday Dec 4, 2020, citing significant irregularities and misconduct in the election process. The most recent lawsuit aims to prevent Raffensperger from certifying the election results after the recount. The Secretary of State has already reiterated that the fraud claims are hard to prove, especially after the recount showed no substantial difference in Biden’s margin of victory.

However, Trump’s legal team said that they had discovered thousands of illegal votes in the states. They also claimed that election officials did not follow the standard process of signature matching or voter identity verification. The suit also stated that around 305,000 people were illegally allowed to vote because they applied for absentee ballots more than 180 days preceding the election, which violates the election code.

The election in Georgia has made headlines over the past several weeks. The lawsuit asserted that the irregularities in the process happened under the watch of Raffensperger and other local election officials.

Apart from the tight presidential race, there will be a pair of runoff elections for the two Georgia Senate seats next month. The runoffs will decide if the Democrats will steal control of the Senate before Biden’s inauguration on January 20.
