The year 2022 is coming to an end at a rapid pace and many pending stories are still being played out in our world…

In a New Year’s column, we might want to both look back and remember the wonderful events from the past year as well as lessons learned. We can look towards nature as a way to understand how to conceptualizing changing times, letting go of the past and how to look towards a new future. When a forest fire takes place, everything is taken in its wake, and it seems as if all is destroyed. And yet, in the midst of that destruction, new species grow, and the forest is reborn once again.

In much the same way, our world has undergone turbulent changes in the last few years. With the pandemic, it is almost as if the old forest in which we once lived was burned down; new ways of relating, communicating and connecting with others needed to be created and in so doing, we lay the foundation for a brand-new world.

We have become better at appreciating the little things in everyday life. This new way of being is something we hopefully will take with us into the new year – to appreciate the small, the natural and the heartening. . We look forward to the light and spring that will eventually come, as it always does.

The great web of life, is something that forms the prerequisites for all manifestations and is something we are all a part of. The big questions about our existence today, despite the progress of science, have not yet been solved. We haven’t figured out the deepest mysteries of matter and consciousness and we don’t fully know what life really is. From the sources of wisdom, the Milky Way, universes, stars and well-functioning and indispensable organisms rise from the smallest and simplest to the largest and most complex.

Modern Science is coming to the same conclusion as our wise ancestors; our hearts hold the key to our happiness, health and harmonious relationships. When our hearts are in a state of loving resonance, it is medicine for our bodies and souls, and increases our well-being. And when our hearts are in coherence with our brains – a scientifically measurable state – we have access to greater focus, wisdom and mental ability. We may not understand why we are here and all of the secrets of how this universe exists, but at the very least, we can learn and being grateful.

Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you will look back and realize they were the big things!
